Zone/Area: Isla de la Juventud
Located in the southeast of the Youth Island. There are five caves, surrounded by a beautiful natural landscape and beaches. This group of caves contains important paintings, considered as the "Sistine Chapel of the Caribbean", cave art made by Aboriginal group Guayabo Blanco, the Siboneyes. Those Caves were discovered at the beginning of the twentieth century by a French marine who sank near there. These paintings, more than two hundred, are in excellent state of preservation and their geometric shapes represent a lunar calendar and the solar system with its planets. Are declared a National Monument since 1979 by the National Monuments Commission.
