Zone/Area: La Habana Ciudad
Work of the Italian artist Giuseppe Gaggini erected in 1837 by Conde de Villanueva, opposite to the eastern gate of the Campo de Marte, according to the plans of the engineer Manuel Pastor, Tagliafichi was the architect who gave completion to work. In 1841 it was placed in the location now occupies, at the end of the second section of the Paseo del Prado. In 1863 by agreement of the council, moved to the middle of Central Park. In 1875 it was again placed on this place, facing the Campo de Marte, in 1928 occupies the present location. The statue of symbolic character represents the Capital of Cuba. The Count of Villanueva paid for this fountain and the one of San Francisco 40.0000 francs. As a sign of wealth, at one side has the Horn of plenty, full of tropical fruits and the other with its three castles, the coat of arms. Dolphins are an allegory of the city by the sea.
